Textbooks for Nagbo

Cindy recently went to a school in a nearby village, Nagbo, to distribute textbooks.  She went with Mona Hewitt (career missionary here) Elizabeth Faile (retired career missionary who spent many years here) and Jay Shafto (Cluster leader for this area of Africa and a career missionary in Burkina Faso).

Nagbo is a primarily Muslim village, but the school is a Christian school and teaches the Bible.  Some Muslim families went to the school officials asking them to teach the Quran, but they refused.  The Muslim families have sent their children to the school anyway.  While Cindy was there, they got to visit some of the classrooms.  She said it was so wonderful to see little Muslim girls (in their traditional head covering) reciting Psalm 23 with huge smiles just like the Christian children.  They may not know what they are saying, but God's word is being etched into their brains nonetheless.

In the classroom, there were no desks and no textbooks.  They were able to distribute both teachers' books and student texts so that every child will receive one.  They had a special prayer time with the teachers.  Jay encouraged them to continue to teach english because the future of their people would be in english, not the local tribal languages.  Since english Bibles are more readily available, he knows that their spiritual future may, in fact, be in those english Bibles.

Next week when the Winona team is here, we will be able to distribute more textbooks here in Nalerigu.

Pray for the schools in Ghana that they will continue to teach more and more children to read so they will be able to read God's Word.  We know from His Word, that it will not return void.
