Manassah's House Site

Here is the site of the future home of Manassah's family and the chicken farm.  There had already been some partial site preparation, but this week we hope that construction will be well underway.  The house and chicken houses will be constructed out of mud and will consist of several rooms around an open "courtyard" in the middle.  Around the perimeter will be mud walls that connect with the buildings.  To get the dirt, they just dig a large hole next to the house site.  Then the hole can be used for the future "septic tank" over which the outhouse is built.

Removing the tree by hand!

There are two trees that are in the way of construction and are being removed.  It's not as easy as grabbing the chain saw and cutting it down because, well, nobody has chain saws!  So how do you remove a tree without a chain saw or a dozer of sorts to push or pull it up?  You DIG it up!  Yeah.  Pick axe, shovel and back breaking labor.  Here's Manassah and his crew working on the smaller of the two trees.  The other one is in the distance.  They have made much headway on digging around the root ball and are trying to loosen it more by rocking it.
